Florida Pizza Reviews & Post Offices – Part 3

This is the 3rd part of my Purchased Pizza and Post Offices of 2022-23 season in the Sarasota, FL area. Pizza from Ivie’s on the Run on Clark Road in Sarasota is reviewed further below.

But let me start with a Nebalatan Word of the Day and a quick Post Office Update.

Nebalatan Word of the Day

Andiamo (on-dee-om-moe) – let’s go (also the same word in Italian)

  • Used in context with Dad (Grandpa Tony)
    • Da – “Michael! Andiamo! ANDIAMO! Get in the car!”
    • 10 year old me – as I sit tying my cleats and adjusting my uniform for 10th time in my normal obsessive, compunction, “OK!” and under my breath, “Vafangoo!”
    • Da – “Vafangoo?! Did I hear you right?” He never really got too mad. “You’ll be late for your game (which I never was late, I was/am too obsessive), no girls will be there to watch anyways!”

Florida Post Office Offices – Part 3

Before going to Ivie’s, I rode a multi-day bike ride in Central Florida from Arcadia, FL (last post) east of Sarasota and ended near Sebring, FL (a future post) south of Orlando. Some of that ride was around the Kissimmee River. There’s a great song about that area:

The Ona, FL and Cracker Trail Post Offices, small towns northeast of Sarasota in ranch and orange grove areas, are more novelty than art! But they are fun.

Quick Review Ivie’s Clark Road – Sarasota, FL – 4/25/23

On April 25th, 2023, I visited Ivie’s on Clark Road in Sarasota, FL, for a neighborhood putt-putt “tournament”. After putt-putt, we stayed for dinner and drinks. As you might expect, I ordered pizza. My take, the overall experience was rather mediocre.

As I assessed the pizza, I couldn’t help but notice that it lacked any discernable style. The crust of the pizza left much to be desired. It seemed to be a premade frozen crust, probably baked using a conveyor belt oven. The telltale cross pattern on the bottom indicated this method, resulting in a crust that was hard but not crispy, leaving me disappointed.

The sauce on the pizza was a white pizza variety, but unfortunately, there was just too much of it. The excessive amount of sauce overwhelmed the other flavors and toppings, leading to an imbalanced taste.

The cheese was another letdown, as it was simply too abundant. It overpowered the other ingredients, making the pizza feel heavy and unbalanced. A more balanced cheese-to-topping ratio would have improved the overall taste significantly.

In terms of presentation, the pizza was served on a stainless steel raised platter, reminiscent of old-style pizzerias. However, the overall dining experience was somewhat incongruent, as paper plates, napkins, and plastic utensils were used.

All of this together, leads to the impression that the place was more suited for Putt-Putt, Driving Range, Cornhole, or Arcades, rather than pizza.

In conclusion, my visit to Ivie’s Clark Road was underwhelming. The lack of a distinctive pizza style, coupled with the subpar crust, overpowering sauce, and excessive cheese, left much to be desired. If you go, don’t order the pizza!
