Great Pizza Search (GPS) #14 was a bike ride to Pizza D’s in Mendon, NY. I chose D’s because it is next to the Lehigh Valley Trail. The route would take in the Erie Canal Trail, Auburn Branch of the Lehigh Valley Trail, and the Main Branch of the Lehigh (Strava Link).
I needed the change of pace that a mostly gravel ride would provide, and this was the perfect distance away to get in a 60 mile round trip. Also, there is a good meeting spot halfway so that I could meet my wife, and she could take in half the ride with me.
Ambiance – Meh
As mentioned, Pizza D’s is immediately adjacent to the Trail in Mendon Center. Although it was Cathy’s first Lehigh Valley ride, I’d been through there many times and had never noticed Pizza D’s (and a Post Office across the street)!
From the outside, Pizza D’s looks like a red barn. On the inside, it had tables, chairs, and counter, but nothing to make the interior memorable. It’s not a joint!
Though the fellow at the cash register had on a mask, other employees either had their masks around their neck or had none.
Several picnic tables with umbrellas were set up outside. This was great to sit, enjoy the pizza, and talk about the ride. But, unfortunately, a couple of employees were smoking outside near our outside table causing me to be overcome by the cigarette smoke. So, much for being outside.

The Dough – B
The crust of my pepperoni folded easily, but had “tip sag”. I don’t mind tip sag except this pizza was a bit greasy, and the tip sag caused the grease to drip off. I don’t like that.
The tip of the crust was thin and soft, but had no crunch. By the time I reached the cornicione, the dough thickened, was airy, and had some crunch. I liked the cornicione so much that I stuck it in my jersey pocket to eat on the way home!
The veggie did not have tip sag, but it was not greasy. I’m not sure if it’s related. I liked the crust on the veggie even better.
The Sauce – Meh
I’m not sure if Meh is sufficiently low. There was little to no sauce taste. It was overwhelmed by the parmagian and pepperoni. I love cheese, but I want to taste sauce too!
The veggie did not have sauce, but it had a amble helping of garlic powder which actually was nice.
The Cheese – B
There was a very sharp parmagian taste that I really, really liked. Unfortunately, the moozedell was overwhelmed by parmagian and pepperoni. As a result, the moozedell presented little taste keeping the cheese from an A grade.

Value – A
$7.50 for two good sized slices and a soda. That’s one of the best yet.
Overall – Meh
Too many Meh’s above for it not to be Meh!
Would I go Back – Not likely
There’s another pizzeria on the other side of the trail. I’ll give that a try. Incidentally, what are these places thinking (I don’t care what the government says), employees without masks and smoking, shows little care for customers.
