Day 2 – GPS (Great Pizza Search) – Return to Nima’s

Yesterday’s failure to get a slice made me think a lot about COVID and me. Am I being too risk averse at the expense of living? So, today, I hopped on my bike to make amends to myself.

I left late “ish” giving me only 3 hours to get to Nima’s in Palmyra, NY, order and eat pizza, and to get back home for the game in Italy at 1:30pm EDT.

I rode hard for me; averaging 17mph with hills and stops, and took the most direct route that I know to get there in 23.6 miles.

On the way down, I pondered “How am I going to make an order? Go inside? Call from my phone?”

I pulled up, gazed through the window, pulled on my mask (and yes, over my nose), and went in; not too much thinking, just doing!

The sign says “Please Wear Your Mask When entering [sic]” As I walked in, both employees did not have on masks; the young women who waited on me, pulled hers on as I moved to the counter.

Inside of Nima’s. It has the look of a pizza joint. The type of place that I truly enjoy.

Now for the slice, finalmente!

It was good, not great.

The crust was very thin, soft, and easily foldable, but it lacked any crunch and sagged at the open end, thus it’s propped on the box in the 2nd pizza picture.

There was a nice mix of moozerdell and parmagian. Unfortunately, it looked like the parmagian was bottled versus freshly ground. See the bottom pizza picture the little dots of white indicate bottle preservatives.

The sauce was lightly applied, slightly sweet, and slightly tangy.

It was good, so I would have preferred more. It seems that most local pizzerias are shy about their sauce application. If any of you read this, if you are going to use sauce, USE SAUCE.

I couldn’t tell if the sauce was homemade, canned whole Marzano that was pureed in-house, or simply canned sauce. Given the likely use of bottled parmagian, I’d also guess the sauce was from a bottle.

The true test, “would I go back?” Maybe. Let me try some more, and then I’ll decide!

BTW – I rode even harder back and was home in time for the game.

FORZA NAPOLI!
